Historical Notes
Located on Canal Street and East Water Street, these 1950’s light fixtures line the roadway along the port terminals.
Municipal Ferry Building - 1941
The building was the work of architect Derwood Lydell Irvin. Irvin worked for the Los Angeles Harbor Department when he got the assignment to design the Ferry Terminal buildings at Berths 84 and 234. The Ferry linked travel between San Pedro Harbor and Terminal Island before the Vincent Thomas Bridge was built.
With some re-design work by architects Pullman and Matthews, the old Streamline Moderne style building with its five-story octagonal tower was converted into the home of the L.A. Maritime Museum since 1979.

The Warner Grand Theatre opened on January 20, 1931, and became the first sound-equipped theater in the South Bay. The design of the Warner Grand Theatre was a collaboration by architect B. Marcus Priteca and interior designer Anthony Heinsbergen, in the Art Deco—Moderne style. It was one of three similarly lavish Los Angeles area Art Deco movie palaces on which Priteca and Heinsbergen collaborated for the Warner Bros. company in the early 1930s.
